Abstract

The article reconstructs Jadwiga Staniszkis’s concept of power by systematising ideas dispersed across her works. The concept of a field of forces provides the interpretive key for presenting the theory as a coherent structure. The analysis emphasises the multidimensional and processual character of power, its relation to the state and the specific forms of rule described by Staniszkis as dictates.

Author's summary

The article offers a systematic reconstruction of a theory that is conceptually rich but dispersed across many of Staniszkis’s writings. I propose the “field of forces” as the key that connects processuality, multidimensionality, the state and different forms of dictate into a single analytical structure.
